Where do you start with goal-setting?

So a great place to start is firstly look at where you’ve been and you know what you know, what goals have you achieved so that you can really tap yourself on the back and go, look how far I have come and then look at where you want to go.

So I’ve recently discovered what I’ve probably known it for a long time, but you know how sometimes you might be scrolling through Instagram and you’re like, Oh, that photographer’s shooting that job and oh, look how good that work is. And you might get a little bit jealous. And sometimes it depends where you’re at. I don’t know if I’ve got a bit of anxiety going on. I’ll. On that very triggering and all actually lower my self-worth and my confidence. But you can actually flip that around and go, wow, look at what they’re doing. How inspiring is that? Because it is triggering me. That’s something that I obviously want to do for myself. So when you notice that coming up, say ask yourself. What is it about that that I want that I want to be doing and that can actually be a place to start with setting a goal for yourself. I like to also think of what do I want to do in my personal life? What’s on my bucket list? So for me, at the moment, I really want to take my daughter to Greece next year.

And so all these, you know, European holidays, people were on from Australia and a lot of people are getting annoyed about it and complaining. But I was like, No, this is really inspiring, you know? I used to travel so much and haven’t since Covid. I’m like, okay, I want to take my daughter over there. And I also want to do a ski trip in Japan in January. So putting that on my vision board and that’s my goals and going, okay, well how much is that actually going to cost me and working out how much money I want to be making my business to support that lifestyle that I want. So in my go to program, I teach people about money and the importance of having a budget and being really clear how much not only that you need to survive, but how much you want to do all the fun things, or buy a nice car or work towards buying a house. So one of my students just bought a house this year and she didn’t think that was ever going to be possible.

And once you actually have it done, that really clear picture and knowing what you want to create for your life, it’s so much easier to work towards because then you can break it down into that action plan and do those little steps each and every day and work towards it.

How do you deal with overwhelm when working towards a goal?

So firstly, if you’re really stuck and you’re really burnt out and there’s too much going on, just take a step back. Like I’m giving you an invitation to take a step back because you can’t work on move forward from a place of being completely frazzled, burnt out, overwhelmed, and start taking those layers off. Like you need to calm down your nervous system and reset. And, you know, there’s a lot going on in the world at the moment and especially in the financial side of things and. People are struggling and then that or the news is constantly spreading this fear around what’s happening financially.

And then we’re getting worried about our business and then we’re starting to work from a fear and a lack mentality, and that just lowers our vibration and that brings on more anxiety and more stress and more worry. So firstly, try and block those things out. And also allow yourself some really deep rest. Like if your body is tired, sleep. Have a bath at night time. Like start slowing down. Stop saying no to meeting with certain people if they’re draining your energy. Like you need to build up your reserves so that you feel your best. Because when you feel your best, then you’ve got more to actually give. You can’t grow from a place of being stressed and burnt out as well. You know, if you’re in a financially struggling position as well, it sounds counterintuitive, but it’s really important for you to book in time to either go for a hike, get out in nature, or book yourself a massage or acupuncture. And every time I’ve done this, I’ll book something for self-care to take care of myself and I’ll get an inquiry.

Come in like literally simultaneously I’ll get or someone will pay their invoice and it’s like the universe goes, Yes, take care of yourself. We value you. You need to do this. And when you actually did a post on this recently, when you take care of yourself and take that time out, it actually allows you to increase your self-worth and really value the work that you do and allow you to give more. And that also means that you become more grounded in how much you charge and your rates and gives you space to believe in the work that you do as well.

If you could add one final piece of advice, something that’s made a difference in your personal life or your business life, what would that piece of advice be?

For me, it would be working on my self-worth a lot earlier on. Think under charged a lot in my early days and didn’t believe in the work I did and believe in myself. And that’s been quite a journey because I’ve had breakdowns, burnouts, you know, almost throwing the towel in, just going one night, getting anywhere. And it always comes back to valuing myself and my self-worth and also taking care of myself and giving way too much and depleting my energy.
