“You have to be comfortable being uncomfortable to keep growing & learning.”
JON BIRD
Hey everyone! It’s Sally here, from Studio Ninja. Today’s episode is all about Jon Bird of Eazyflicks!
Eazyflicks founder, Jon Bird, had spent many years shooting wedding films and photos when he spotted a gap in the software market – somewhere for creatives to deliver both films and photos online, together. Pursuing this new adventure, he found ways to transition from full time wedding creative, to part time associate shooter, so he could put all of his efforts into the UK’s first combo cloud delivery platform, Eazyflicks!
Check out some of the biggest points from Jon’s interview below:
What is Eazyflicks?
Well, Eazyflicks is primarily a delivery platform. It’s aimed at the wedding filmmaker and photographers. It’s a combo delivery platform, if you will. Aside from that, you can host your films and have everything on your website and stuff. I think primarily it’s a delivery platform, but you can do with it little bits and stuff and keep everything under one roof.
It was about having the ability to upload everything all together. And usually there are obviously other galleries, but they are wanting you to upload, say, a Vimeo link or a YouTube link. Say if you want to do it on your website, you’d have to use a few different services. I think the main thing is to just have everything together and keep it really simple and all in one place. That was the idea. That was the gap, if you will, that I saw and went for it.
What is your advice for a photographer/videographer looking to branch out into being an associate?
Well, I think for me, obviously a massive difference was I just brought down my overheads and liabilities. We’re talking about a bit of a lifestyle shift. And it’s not for everybody, but obviously me, I live in a van, so the overheads are just … You know what it’s like with all the prices increasing and stuff like that.
And that is a massive thing for me because if you’re just living more minimalist and trying to bring all that down and all your overheads and stuff, then you can find finances to cover what you’re doing on that sort of … You don’t need too much to get by. And so, my biggest thing was that. But I would just say, just if anyone’s looking to … You got to have a big why thing. You got to really know why you want to do it and what having the time means to you and stuff like that.
If you could add one final piece of advice, something that’s made a difference in your personal life or your business life, what would that piece of advice be?
I would say just finding an opportunity and going for it. It sounds daft, but the van has changed my entire life going forward. It’s changed my outlook. It’s changed how I live and what I’d go for. That’s been a massive thing. But it frees up head space and finances and everything else so that I can basically concentrate on making bigger moves and bigger mistakes as well. And you mitigate all the risk and stuff a lot more compared to what I was doing before, I had a lot of cars, motorbikes and stuff to think about. And because I’ve got rid of a lot of that, I just focus a lot more on the important things. And I think that’s just made the biggest difference for me.
